History, and Future, of Historic Preservation—and the World
Get a sense of various opinions on the future historic preservation:
- from the reading, previously and below
- from the Looking Forward symposium, October 1
- from you own thoughts
For students not attending the Looking Forward Symposium
- What is 'historic preservation' today?
- Use a cited definition and/or write your own (citing various sources, as needed).
- How do you see historic preservation developing in the future?

- Reference and critically assess Looking Forward symposium presentations.
- Employ your personal thoughts.

For students attending the Looking Forward Symposium
- Employ readings, as well as the presentation and discussions throughout the symposium to inform your essay.
- Write a two-page (minimum) essay.
- Assess pertinent aspects of the keynote, individual presentations, sessions, and discussion as they inform the future role and work of historic preservation.
